This is in recognition of the many contributions made by municipal clerks as a vital part of local government. Mayor Matt Zacher has made a proclamation for Mental Health Awareness Month. Observed every year since 1949, the month is used to raise awareness, educate the public, provide necessary support, and fight the stigma that surrounds mental health.
An estimated 26% of Americans aged 18 and older suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. One in twenty U.S. adults experience a serious mental illness each year, and only two-thirds receive treatment. To be considered, applicants must be a resident of District 3, and are requested to attend the Tuesday, May 21, 2024 Common Council meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. This seat will fill the remainder of a term that would expire in April 14, 2025. An election for the seat will be held at the Spring Election on April 1, 2025. The first Arbor Day in the United States was celebrated in 1872, originated by former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska. On that day, over a million trees were planted in the state.
Mayor Shane Blaser has made a proclamation for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week for April 14-20. This observation is held annually during the second week of April. It is to honor public safety telecommunicators for dedicating their lives to public safety, and serving the community.
