High Street – 7th Ave N to 10th Ave N
City crews continue storm sewer replacement on High Street. New storm catch basins were installed at the 7th Ave. N intersection and the intersection is partially re-opened for local traffic. Storm sewer replacement on this first block of the project is planned to be completed next week. Upgrading the water main will follow before moving on to the next block. KS Energy began gas line main replacement on 8th Ave N and work slowed as rock was encountered. High Street remains closed from 7th Ave N to 10th Ave N with no driveway access to residents in the excavation area on the 700 block. Wastewater force main river crossing The City of Wisconsin Rapids Wastewater Department is in the middle stages of the West Side Lift Station and Force Main replacement projects. This week A1 Excavating finished the jack and bore pipe under 2nd Ave N, and are continuing the open cut trench work along 2nd Ave N heading south. Ellingson Trenchless is continuing the directional drilling beneath the Wisconsin River, hoping to have the pilot hole complete within two weeks. When Ellingson has completed the directional drilling, a new 20” force main pipe will be pulled across the river. The river-crossing is expected to be complete by mid-July. Final connections and road closures near Blue Heron Ln, Pepper Ave, and Ridgewood Trail intersections are tentatively planned for the week of July 10th. West Side Lift Station No work this week as calculations are being done to evaluate the rock excavation required to facilitate the lift station structure. Work is expected to resume as soon as the geotechnical evaluations are complete. Wisconsin River Green Space and Recreation Project This week Janke Construction, Inc. completed curb and gutter work on Riverwood Lane. They continued work on the trail along Riverwood Lane and under the Riverview Expressway bridge. They also began installation of storm sewer in Demitz Park. Janke will continue working on installation of storm sewer in Demitz Park and the trail under the bridge. Asphalt paving may occur next week on Riverwood Lane, along with final restoration of the trail along 1st Street South to the Riverview Expressway bridge. 1st St N – Poplar St to North City Limits American Asphalt completed paving the 8’ wide trail this week. The trail will not open however, until after topsoil and seeding is complete along with fencing certain areas. Project completion is anticipated very soon. Washington St – 8th St N to 12th St N City crews are 90% done with the final restoration work and should finish work on this project next week.
High Street – 7th Ave N to 10th Ave N Excavation on High Street exposing sand, clay and rock City crews began excavation to replace the old 36” clay storm sewer located in a bedrock trench 17’ below the roadway. Temporary water was placed to some residents to allow for the excavation. A new storm manhole was placed at the 7th Ave N intersection, so the intersection can partially reopen next week. Storm sewer replacement will continue next week progressing towards 8th Ave N. KS Energy Services completed a gas line upgrade on 9th Ave N and will be working on 8th Ave N next week. Wastewater force main river crossing The pipe crew has bored casing pipe underneath 2nd Ave N. The drilling crew continues to bore across the river. Wisconsin River Green Space and Recreation Project This week the prime contractor Janke Construction, Inc. continued work underneath the East Riverview Expressway Bridge and began placing riprap under the bridge. They also worked on the trail between 1st Street South and the East Riverview Expressway Bridge and began grading the trail in Demitz Park. Lastly, they started installing sidewalk along 1st Street South to the bridge. Next week Janke plans to continue working on the trail under the bridge, placing riprap and installing storm sewer and sanitary sewer. They will also continue work on Demitz park grading. 1st St N – Poplar St to North City Limits City crews completed final grading this week for the recreation trail. American Asphalt is scheduled to pave the trail next week Tuesday or Wednesday weather permitting. Residents should be aware of paving operations and expect delays as the road will be restricted to one lane during trail paving. Work on the pedestrian railing, restoration and pavement marking will follow. Project completion is anticipated in early June. Washington St – 8th St N to 12th St N A carriage walk concrete pour and one asphalt driveway match is the remaining work left on Washington St. City crews began final lawn restoration this week and should be finished within the next couple weeks.
29th Ave Storm Sewer Replacement
Crews completed the project this week. High Street – 7th Ave N to 10th Ave N Roadwork began this week and High Street was marked for closure from 7th Ave N to 10th Ave N. High Street and 7th Ave N intersection is closed to through traffic. The majority of work over the next three weeks with be underground sewer and water replacement on the 700 block of High Street, between 7th Ave N and 8th Ave N. Residents along this piece will not be able to access their driveways until after the utility work is complete. Wastewater force main river crossing Multi-use trail detours are in place for users wanting to cross 2nd Ave S south of the roundabout. Materials have been delivered to the site at Ben Hansen Park and there are two crews working. The pipe crew has stripped topsoil and prepared the site for force main excavation, installed silt fence, and is preparing to dig boring pits to accommodate casing pipe that will be installed underneath 2nd Ave S. The drilling crew has set up a large drilling rig to drill the pilot hole that will start in Ben Hansen Park by the sand volleyball court under the river to Blue Heron Lane. Work next week will include installing the casing under the highway, installing some of the force main piping, and drilling the pilot hole across the river. West Side Lift Station Preliminary site excavation for the west side lift station has commenced. Work has temporarily ceased while calculations are being done to evaluate the rock excavation required to facilitate the lift station structure. Work is expected to resume as soon as the geotechnical evaluations are complete. East River Bank Project The prime contractor Janke Construction, Inc. continued work on the trail underneath the East Riverview Expressway Bridge. They began concrete work; pouring concrete trail from 1st Street S towards Riverwood Lane. They also installed the block retaining wall along Riverwood Lane. Lastly, they completed installation of a storm sewer structure on Riverwood Lane. Next week Janke will continue work underneath the East Riverview Expressway Bridge as they plan to continue work on the trail between 1st Street S and East Riverview Expressway Bridge and may begin trail work in Demitz Park. 1st St N – Poplar St to North City Limits Beam guard modifications are complete near Strawberry Lane. Final work to complete this project includes: trail grading and paving, pedestrian railing, restoration and pavement marking. Construction crews are anticipating completion at the end of May or early June. Washington St – 8th St N to 12th St N The concrete contractor finished the concrete sidewalk and concrete driveway approaches last week. City crews will be performing the final restoration of this project within the next couple weeks. Work is expected to be completed the first week of June.

Construction materials are expected to be delivered beginning Monday, May 14. Trucks and construction vehicles will be entering and exiting the work area throughout the duration of the project. Motor vehicle traffic can expect some very short, occasional delays. Pedestrians and multi-use trail users may experience some trail closures and detours throughout the construction project. Please drive carefully and the City asks park users to stay a safe distance from construction equipment and activities.
